RV Inspection Services: Frequently Asked Questions

Simple answer is ......Yes.

It is important to remember that RVs are assembled per unit, much like a residential home.  Even with quality checks at the manufacturing plant and dealership PDIs (pre-delivery inspections), missed defects and damage can still occur.

The PDI process and test requirements defined by the dealership can vary considerably between dealerships, many are great, some .... not so great.

An inspection by a qualified RV inspector helps the buyer review that:

  • OEM appliances/components used in the build are functioning as intended
  • issues related to the transportation of the RV are identified
  • unreported damage occurring on the dealership lot (by customer(s), employees or weather) is identified
  • the RV was inspected against published standards and testing methods

Issues identified in the inspection report can be reviewed with the dealership service department to ensure the repairs you want completed are addressed in a timely manner, prior to completing the sale.

Remember, before the sale, you have leverage to decide what needs repaired. Under warranty after the sale, the dealer and the manufacturer decide what is eligible for repair.

Addressing issues identified in an inspection performed prior to the sale puts you in a position to enjoy your new RV when you are miles from the dealership where you purchased the RV.  Especially if you purchased the RV in another state.

Opting for a used RV can provide significant cost savings and allow you to access higher-end models that may be out of budget if purchased new.

Used RVs often have established reliability if previously maintained properly, and you may find models with desirable features that are discontinued in newer versions.

However, it is crucial to conduct thorough inspections and review maintenance records to ensure the used RV's condition meets your expectations.

Purchasing an motorhome or travel trailer?  To ensure longer-term satisfaction and safety during your travels it is important to consider elements such as:

  • RV layout (can you start daily activities without having to relocate people still sleeping?)
  • sleeping capacity (is there a spot for everyone to sleep/relax)
  • access to essential features at rest stops on travel days (bathroom, food, naps)
  • available areas for storage
  • price vs. build quality and materials used by the OEM (good, better, best)
  • Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR)  maximum combined weight of a towing vehicle and its trailer.  Do you need an additional operator license/endorsement to operate in states where you intend to travel?
  • warranty coverage and where authorized repairs can be performed while you are away from your local dealership.

Yes, we offer fluid sampling with expedited processing.

  •  On 5th wheel trailers, we provide oil analysis for permanently installed generators with a transfer switch

  •   On motorhomes, we provide analysis on

                   - engine oil

                   - engine coolant

                   - oil on the generator

Scheduling a professional RV inspection with Nittany RV Inspectors ensures a comprehensive evaluation of your recreational vehicle's structural integrity, mechanical systems, safety features, and overall condition.

Older RV units tend to have more issues due to age and wear.  The additional fee allows the inspector more time to document and record the higher number of issues identified during the inspection on an older RV unit in the final report for the buyer.

Using diagnostic tools and adhering to industry standards, Nittany RV Inspectors guarantees thoroughness and reliability, giving you peace of mind and confidence in your RV investment.
